WELCOME TO TARIKI TRUST

DSC01476Tariki Trust is a community of people who believe that Buddhism is something which we live, not simply a practice to be done in limited time slots during a busy day.

Buddhism is the spirit which flows in our bones and the beautiful vibrancy of the world we encounter. It is the possibility for awakening to the wonder of the ordinary and to cease searching the ends of the earth for jewels which are already in our posession.

Tariki Trust is a community of people who are interested in learning, ideas, creativity and social responsibility. We believe in practising through concern for others and engagement with life in all its forms. In paticular we find that Buddhism offers a psychological and spiritual analysis of the human condition which speaks to both personal and professional contexts.

The name Tariki means 'other-power' in Japanese, a fundamental concept in Pureland Buddhism. As such it is the basis for Other-Centred Approach, the model of psychology which underpins the psychotherapy taught on Tariki courses. Other-centred work is itself flexible, suggesting an attitude of engagement and encounter rather than introversion, so it leads us to embrace many fields of involvement and cultural activities as well as the narrowly therapeutic. Tariki people are interested, among other things, in:
  • Pureland spirituality
  • Other Buddhist traditions and spiritual paths
  • A variety of training programmes in applied Buddhism
  • Psychotherapy training
  • Eco-therapy and environmentally based retreats
  • Arts
  • Socially engaged work
  • Environmental work and work on the land
  • Chaplaincy & chaplaincy training
  • Women's groups and retreats
  • Ideas and dialogues
  • Music and chanting
