Local Events in Narborough

Ph_tbh2There is lots going on at The Buddhist House, and we hope that if you live locally, or want to visit from a distance, you will join us for some of these. Click here for details of staying at the house.

SUNDAY SERVICES: Sunday afternoons we have an informal Buddhist service at 5.00pm. This service lasts about an hour and usually includes meditation, chanting and other Pureland practice. It is a time when we can come together to celebrate the spiritual, join in nembutsu chanting which is the heart of Pureland practice, and dedicate ourselves to the way. Some weeks there will be a talk or reading as part of this service, other weeks it may be simpler. Services are followed by a pot luck meal.

DAILY PRACTICE: Other practice varies depending on who is staying in the house at the time and whether there are other events on, but most days there will be some chanting and/or meditation happening at some point.

STUDY CLASS: On monday evenings we have a discussion and study group at 7.00pm. We will look at a variety of topics related to Buddhism. Different people will lead the group on different occasions, and the format will vary - sometimes we will look at an issue or read a passage together as a basis for discussion. Other times we might study a Buddhist text in more detail or have an invited speaker.

MEDITATION AND RELAXATION: Tuesday evenings from 10 January 2012 the meditation class at the Buddhist House is restarting. These classes run 7.30 to 8.30pm and are followed by tea.  Each class is self contained, so people are welcome to come along and try one out. An interesting range of different techniques are taught and they are suitable for both beginners and experienced meditators.  The class is taught by two experienced mediators and practising Buddhists.  There is a suggested donation of £3 to £5, but we would not want anyone to not come due to cost.

INTRODUCTORY RETREATS: We run regular introductory retreats in the house which offer you an introduction to Buddhism and to Pureland Practice. Details of forthcoming retreats can be found in Tariki News (see the side bar of this site)
