The exploration of the lifepath is a common feature of many psychotherapies. There are a number of methods which have been developed to aid this exploration by making the passage of time visible, representing it with lifelines or in other diagrammatic forms. Working out of doors, these methods can be employed to help people to explore their life stories in a variety of ways. This can be an exciting process, as we work with scale and with different materials. A life line can be created from a simple line drawn in the sand, or it can be a section of footpath on which natural objects may be found or placed. It can even be a hike across wilderness. These larger scale examples of the lifeline allow for fully immersive experience as well as for stepping out and finding vantage points. Standing in our present time we can look both forwards and back, but equally we can take ourselves right to the beginning or end of life and take of long view of the full story as we imagine it unfolding. This workshop will be a practical introduction to working in this way and will allow participants to practice working with timelines and facilitating others.
