May 6th 2.00-5.00 SomaQuest: An Embodied & Nature-Based Enquiry following the Ten Directions Ecotherapy Model
with Carla Walmsley-Esteves
The impulse towards enquiry and knowledge has always been part of the evolution of humanity. Embodied Knowing or embodied enquiry is a way to deepen our ecological understanding.
This workshop offers a brief introduction and experience to the newly developed process of ‘embodied and nature-based enquiry’, following the Ten Directions Ecotherapy Model.
Participants would be encouraged to explore what is alive in them in relation to nature as a starting point and respond by being with what is unfolding moment-to-moment in their bodies and in nature. As we move through each of the ten directions, we will invite a dialogue with our felt-sense and pay attention to other information arising whether through the senses or the kinaesthetic, proprioceptive, interoceptive channels, or through associated feelings, emotions, images, metaphors, and gestures , towards an embodied knowing.
Please bring some arts material like crayons, oils pastels, watercolour, pen and paper. Easy access to a nearby garden, park or nature needed as well as some rain proof clothes for when outdoors.
Date and Time: Thursday 6th May 2.00-5.00 (Note this is three hours)
Venue: online
Cost £20

8th July: 2.00-5.00 Introduction to Eco-somatics
with Carla Walmsley-Esteves
Ecosomatics is a growing interdisciplinary field inter-relating aspects of embodied practices with ecological awareness. The word somatics comes from the Greek word ‘soma’ which means ‘ the living body’. The ‘soma’ is referred to as the body experienced from within, or in other words, the sentient body.
As we know the body is the conduit through which we experience ourselves and the environment, and our somatic lived experience can be enhanced through embodied practices.
For this introductory course we will look at the interconnectedness of the human body/life and the Earth, weaving the relationship between our bones and stones/soil, our skin, touch and the air we breathe and around us. Participants will have the opportunity to explore and wake up the ‘soma’ , the sentient body outdoors and how it can invite a deeply intimate and relational contact with all life.
Most of the practices will encourage gentle movement. Please bring comfortable loose clothes for indoors, and waterproofs for outdoors, as well as one medium size stone. Please also bring art materials like crayons, oils pastels, watercolour, pen and paper. Easy access to a nearby garden, nearby park , woods or nature needed.
