BUDDHIST THERAPISTS FORUM: NOVEMBER 15th 2014
If you are interested in learning more about mindfulness, do come along to this regular gathering of therapists, students and others interested in the interface between Buddhism and Psychotherapy. This month our speaker is Paul Christelis.
Paul has worked as a clinical psychologist, psychotherapist, clinical supervisor, writer, group facilitator and teacher for twenty years, in a variety of settings. The common thread in all that he undertakes, is mindfulness. He is dedicated to helping people to be more present in their lives, in their relationships, work and with themselves.
In this meeting, Paul will explore what is means to live mindfully, with a particular focus on the Role of Intention in Mindfulness Practice (the subject of his MSc thesis). Why do we practise? Is striving involved, or should we give up attachments to results? Are ethics importance in setting intentions? These are a few of the issues we'll explore, in an experiential, playful way.
Cost: £15 (£10 students/concessions) including lunch. Please book in advance. accommodation is available if required

WEDNESDAY MINDFULNESS CLASSES: Mindfulness & Eating
Starting November 5th for five weeks; 7.30pm - 9.00pm
- Have you ever found yourself opening the biscuit tin and eating three biscuits when you only intended to take one?
- Do you read or talk or watch TV whilst having a meal and not really notice what you are eating?
- When did you last notice the difference of flavour between different varieties of apple or cheese?
- Do you ever use food because you are bored or upset?
We all eat food every day and yet how often do we really enjoy it? Most of us have complicated relationships with food, dominated by ideas which we learned in childhood and as adults. These are further complicated by social pressures and advertising. We want to be slim and attractive, to stay young and healthy, yet are tempted by mouthwatering images of indulgent food - dripping chocolate cakes or sizzling chips.
These pressures get in the way of our simply eating what our bodies need and enjoying what is available.
This five week mindfulness class will focus on our relationship to food, looking at ways to become more aware of our own personal eating patterns, more focused in the moment as we appreciate the depth of taste and texture of ordinary foods, and more conscious of what we take into our bodies and how it has come to us.
Cost: suggested contribution £10 waged/£6 low waged per session; Please contact us to book your place and try to attend all five sessions.
